Chevrolet C10 truck owners were included this year in Flaming River‘s new line of steering components. The 1967-’72 cradle kit for the C10 does away with the steering box, drag link, idler arm, and tie rods and replaces these components with a complete, bolt-in kit that includes a power rack-and-pinion system.
While many C10 owners have been converting their trucks to a more driveable vehicle, the suspension and brakes are often upgraded. But leaving that big, clunky steering box meant that they might have to put up with some lane wandering and a little bit of play in the steering wheel. No longer do owners have to put up with that nonsense!
The C10 cradle kit also includes the column in a number of finishes and configurations, including tilt and floor or column shift options. Converting to power steering also requires a pump and reservoir, and Flaming River has thought of that as well, and included the entire system in this kit.
Mopar Added To The Column Lineup
While Flaming River is well-known for its line of columns and steering systems, Mopar owners were left out in the cold when it came to steering options. But Flaming River stepped up once again, and now offers new options for owners of 1970-’76 Mopars with its new steering column. As owners have been rebuilding their columns for years, and converting from automatic to manual, they’ve found that parts are often hard to find and expensive to replace.
Flaming River’s new columns are a direct bolt-in, utilizing the factory column hanger bracket and replacing the decades-old coupler with a universal joint and slip shaft to mate up to the factory steering box. The columns are also available in column or floor shift versions, making that conversion to manual a perfect time to upgrade the column.
Mopar owners have also noted over the years that the popular connector switch for the column wiring was often the GM variety, leaving us to do a lot of manipulation. We’re happy to say that the correct adapter plug has been included with the column for a direct-fit application to the Mopar wiring harness.
Available in chrome, raw material for paint or powdercoating, or a stainless finish that can be brushed if the customer desires. To find out more about the Mopar steering column line or the C10 cradle kits, check out the Flaming River website for kits and pricing.
