To all of the Corvette owners with LS engines, we have exciting news from our friends at Fidanza Performance. At SEMA 2015, Fidanza proudly introduced its new VT Twin-Disc Clutch for LS engines, along with an extensive line of clutches and flywheels for Camaros and Corvettes.
Dan Jenkins, vice president of operations for Fidanza Performance, offers the inside scoop on the company’s new clutches and flywheels for the popular high-performance LS Series engines. The VT Clutch series includes a twin-disc clutch with a Fidanza lightweight aluminum flywheel.
“The twin-disc clutch is fully serviceable and made to endure the high demands of high-performance engines,” Jenkins says.
The high-performance twin-disc clutches are available in two performance levels. The VT1 version is a solid sprung hub disc design for high-performance use and can handle up to 800 lb-ft of torque. The VT2 has a sprung hub with a six puck “Cerametallic” design capable of handling 1,000 lb-ft of torque.
Couple the new twin-disc clutch with Fidanza’s aluminum flywheels, designed to be stronger than OE cast iron flywheels, and you have a winning combination.
The lower weight of billet aluminum — approximately 40 to 60 percent lighter than a stock stamped-steel pressure plate — helps to deliver significant performance benefits such as faster throttle response, quicker acceleration and smoother shifting. Aluminum also helps dissipate heat more efficiently, allowing for higher clutch performance and longer life.
Another benefit of aluminum flywheels and pressure plates is easier braking by freeing up additional horsepower to the wheels and reducing parasitic driveline loss. Aluminum flywheels are also capable of delivering manufacturers’ equivalent inertia, but at an increased RPM.
