Vortech has long been a leader in the high performance industry with its lineups of street and all-out drag race superchargers, and a big part of that is a devotion to tackling the latest and greatest machines on the showroom floor to help its customers wring some horsepower out of their rides. Here at SEMA, they’re showing off some of the latest street product developments with the launch of supercharger kits for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang GT350, while also strutting out a small-block Ford YSi cog belt kit.
For the Mustang crowd with their potent new GT350, Vortech has packed the V3 supercharger into an all-new package.
“The GT350 kit is a very exciting product for us that comes with our V3 blower. It operates at 6 psi — it’s a very high-revving car and the compression is relatively high, so 6 psi is what we’ve deemed safe on 91 octane fuel. This kit produces 713 horsepower, so it’s a nice package,” says Vortech’s Brian Ellis.
The kit comes with an SCT tune developed and fine tuned in-house at Vortech and comes with the visually-appealing carbon fiber inlet and a 900 horsepower-proven air-to-air charge intercooler. “The power potential is there if someone is ready to run higher octane fuel and throw the boost at it. We’ve always been known for making kits that are safe and reliable right out of the box with a lot more potential when the enthusiast is ready, and that’s exactly what this kit is,” Ellis explains.
Other Vortech superchargers can also be added with a change in mounting bracket. Kits can also be purchased with the tune or as a tuner kit.
For the Camaro owners, Vortech has launched a brand new supercharger system that builds on the highly impressive kit they developed for the fifth-gen Camaro.
“With this street kit, we have a secondary drive so the blower is lined up for when the time comes to step things up, and you can run the factory balancer with it. The secondary drive gives you more pulley options to set it up and keep more of a street setup, and then when you want to make 1,000-plus horsepower, you can change the balancer and add the dedicated secondary drive and the blower is lined up for it.”
The new cog kit for the YSi supercharger, meanwhile, is a passenger-side drive setup for 1986-1993 Fox body Mustangs, providing a solution to something the company has had a lot of inquiry for.
“We haven’t had a passenger-side drive to date — we’ve had driver-side cog systems for many years, either with the Renegade or Mondo bracket set, but a lot of guys want to run power steering and air conditioning, and we didn’t have an answer for that, so it was time.”
The cog kit is set up to run a full 50 mm belt, and customers can still maintain all of their creature comforts.
