For those hardy old timers that have lived their lives inside a Holley Carb, it is still difficult to imagine the legendary carb manufacturer producing electronic fuel injection systems. Yet, the company does, and they are doing it successfully with several different levels of performance in mind. “We really want to get the word out about our entry level self-tuning EFI kit that starts at $999,” said Holley’s Bill Tichenor.
The Sniper EFI unit looks decidedly like a traditional carburetor but is filled with modern technology at every angle. The unit will bolt on as a carburetor replacement because it is designed to fit 4150 or spread bore manifolds. The ECU is contained in the throttle body unit so there is no extra boxes to mount, and the system will support engines up to 650 horsepower.
Remarkably, there are only four wiring connections to make: a positive battery connection, a ground to the battery, a switched ignition connection, and one to the rpm circuit. When it comes to plumbing, the Sniper EFI has a fuel pressure regulator onboard, so there is no need to add one into the plumbing. The unit also has integrated ignition and timing control to keep the injectors operating when they are supposed to.
There is no need for a laptop computer as the kit comes with a handheld display and control unit with a touchscreen display that allows for setup, tuning, and gauge displays. Initial setup is a breeze and the system continues to learn and adjust the fuel as needed for optimal operation and performance.
