With the release of Chevrolet Performance’s new LT5 crate engine, one could assume that the aftermarket will be gearing up to offer bigger and better products for this new mill. After all, this crate engine that was originally housed in the notorious ZR-1 can now be installed in any project of your choice. Sure, the 6.2-liter LT5 from GM makes a ridiculous amount of power and torque, but we are here because the factory just doesn’t always get it done and there always seems to be room for improvement.
Luckily ATI Performance Products is ahead for the curve and has unveiled a new Super Damper for the LT5 platform. The Super Damper is the only crankshaft damper that is exclusively designed for high-performance Chevrolet engines, and this one is specific to the LT5. These dampers are built to exceed SFI 18.1 specs while eliminating torsional crankshaft vibrations. They are also tunable, rebuildable, and efficient at all RPM levels. The damper is finished with black zinc chromate and is laser engraved with 360-degree timing marks.
The most significant difference between the standard SuperDamper and the new LT5 unit is you can change the pulleys out so that you can run more boost. You can swap them out and overdrive the blower by 5, 10,15, and even 20-percent. This means more power and torque with better damping as well. If you don’t want to overdrive the blower but would like to have all of the advantages of the Super Damper, ATI also offers an OEM sized pulley too. This will allow your engine to remain at the stock power level but still utilize the benefits of the Super Damper.
Whether you have a stock ZR1 with an LT5 or the crate version, be sure and check out the ATI Super Damper. Streetcar or race car, the ATI harmonic balancers are a perfect choice for your hotrod.
