The 6.2-liter LT5 has cemented its place as the most powerful mill ever offered by General Motors in a production vehicle. This engine delivers a sledgehammer-sized blow of power with 755 horsepower and 715 lb.-ft. of smile-inducing torque on pump gas. The engine outshines both the supercharged LS9 and LT4 engines that came before it in other GM vehicles in the raw horsepower department.

What makes the LT5 so appealing for a rowdy project car is the huge amount of performance the 376 cubic-inch engine offers. The block is the standard six-bolt unit with cross-bolted main caps, and is made from cast-aluminum. Inside the LT5 block is a forged-steel crankshaft, and forged, powdered-metal steel connecting rods connected to a set of forged-aluminum pistons. A hydraulic-roller camshaft with dual equal phasing – measuring .551-inch on the intake side and .524-inch on the exhaust side – comes standard inside the engine. Accepting all the air from the Eaton TVS R2650 supercharger is a set of 356-T6 aluminum heads with 65.47cc chambers.

According to Curt Collins from Chevrolet Performance, you can order the engine from an authorized Chevrolet Performance dealer for a street price of $17,915 and the LT5 engine also comes with a two-year, 50,000-mile warranty from the factory.
