SEMA 2019: Taylor Vertex Offers New Ignition Box

Picture this: Your show car is nearly complete and it’s immaculate under the hood, everything is painted, polished, and all the wiring has been expertly hidden. But then you realize your show car needs an ignition box.

Most ignition boxes in the performance aftermarket industry are not very good looking under the hood, but Rick Ojeda, vice president of Taylor Cable Products, says the company has the perfect solution. Launched at the 2019 SEMA Show, the company’s new ignition box comes with finish options like polished aluminum or anodized colors to provide a unique look.

“A racer doesn’t care that it looks good, they only care if it works. So if it looks good for show cars and works for racers, it serves a dual purpose.” Ojeda added that the ignition box offered by Taylor Vertex is the equivalent to competitors 6AL boxes.

One of the major selling points of the Taylor Vertex box is that it has an automatic shut off.

According to Ojeda, if parts begin to fail that could lead to an ignition box failure, the box will automatically shut off, rather then continue to run and ultimately the need to replace it.

“As long as you shut down the system, find out whether the problem is and get it fixed, the box will be right back up. With this function, it will continue to work as it did before.” Ojeda added that the ignition box features a ‘plug-n-play’ installation.

Also on display at the 2019 SEMA Show were Taylor’s 8mm silicone wires with Pro boot. According to Ojeda, the company uses a very unique silicone supplier which allows them to offer 11 different, and vibrant, color choices.

“Most companies offer red, black and blue. We want to try to get it away from the old school colors and into the more modern-day colors, you know what the younger generations might be looking for.”

Ojeda hinted that one of the potential future colors could be some kind of metallic gold, but he says it will be a challenging color to produce. Ojeda added that in January, anyone can visit the companies website and vote for new colors as well as offer new color suggestions.
