SEMA 2020: Chevrolet Performance Introduces L8T 6.6-Liter Block

The 6.0-liter LS iron block is a popular choice among performance enthusiasts and well as engine builders. It’s cast iron design provides more strength than the aluminum versions, allowing builders to make more reliable power. However, GM has not offered a production iron LT block for purchase, well, until now. At SEMA360 this year, Chevrolet Performance released a new product that is sure to make LT fans rejoice. The L8T 6.6-liter iron block is now available for purchase. With a robust design, this product is sure to make its way into some high-horsepower builds.

The L8T was introduced in 2020 GMC Sierra and 2020 Chevrolet HD trucks. These engines are rated at 401 horsepower and 646 lb-ft of torque and include a forged steel crankshaft, powdered-metal rods, and other components. And while the parts are acceptable in a stock vehicle, the aftermarket prefers the use of high-performance pieces for reliability and big horsepower, and Chevrolet answered that call by offering just the L8T block for purchase.

The L8T block features six nodular iron main caps, 103.25mm bore, 98mm stroke, and interbore cooling drills.

The L8T block features six nodular iron main caps, 103.25mm bore, 98mm stroke, and has interbore cooling drills for better cooling between the cylinder head and the block. Chris Little, Engineering Group Manager of Chevrolet Performance, said, “This is going to be a really good option for the crate engine builder out there that wants something really robust and is enhanced for great durability and strength.” In addition to the block, Chevrolet Performance will also offer an L8T crankshaft with eight counterweights for perfect balance. This crank will allow engine builders to get a little more displacement out of the engine.

The new L8T 6.6-liter Gen V Iron Cylinder block (PN 19420904) will retail for $2,167 from Chevrolet Performance. For more information on this product and others, be sure to visit Chevorlet.com.
