SEMA 2019: Toyo Tires R888R And RR 20-Inch Tire Line, Up To 325s

SEMA 2019: Toyo Tires R888R And RR 20-Inch Tire Line, Up To 325s

Here at TURNology, we enjoy carving up the turns on the Proxes R888R and RR tires by Toyo, and they rank high among DOT Competition tires available on the market. The Toyo Tires sizing chart covers a lot of vehicles to run both the Proxes RR and R888R, starting from 14-inch applications on up.

For many racers and track day enthusiasts, 15 to 18-inch sizes cover their needs. But larger, modern cars have massive wheels out-of-the-box, and the demand for 20-inch sizes has dramatically increased. Found on late model domestics like Vettes and SRT Mopars, the 20-inch sizing for the Proxes R888R and RR means that many new performance and muscle cars are now ready to hit the track on the stock wheels.

We reported on the new Mopar specific sizes earlier this year but got a personal look at the tires while at SEMA. We stopped to talk with Toyo, and they informed us the 20-inch line was to meet the market demands after noticing a lack of product out there offered by the competition. A few DOT competition tires might make up to 19-inch sizes, but 20-inch sizing is not easy to find. Now, with these six new sizes for Proxes R888R and five for the RR, a lot of contact patch can be put down on factory wheels.

In the past, cars with 20-inch wheels from the factory had to be fitted with 18-inch wheels to accommodate the R-Comp tire sizes available. But the following sizes of Toyo competition tires means that an extra set of step-down wheels in your garage wearing R-comps doesn’t have to be the only option:

  • 255/35ZR20
  • 285/30ZR20
  • 285/35ZR20
  • 305/35ZR20 (not available for RR)
  • 315/30ZR20
  • 325/30ZR20

The new sizes of 20-inch DOT competition tires can be fitted to many OEM wheels in widths ranging from 8.5 inches up to 12 inches. The same Y-Speed rating applies here as with all Proxes R888Rs, and RRs are good to 195 mph, which most of us are not hitting on any race track anytime soon. The same 100-treadwear is on the new sizes, a soft compound that will get up to temp fast and stay sticky lap after lap.

The Proxes R888R is a dry performance tire that offers predictable handling and faster lap times but can also be used in the wet with its water evacuation channels. The Proxes RR is a race-ready 4/32nd tread depth that is built for the dry and is approved for NASA racing series.
