We have been following the steady progress of Lingenfelter’s LS9-powered Camaro for quite some time now. Back in April, it was an 855-horsepower monster, running the quarter mile down in just over ten seconds. This wasn’t some stripped drag car either, but a fully-functioning Camaro with all the bells and whistles. A few weeks ago it was even flirting with the 8’s, coming in with a 9.06.
The car has come a long, long way, and Lingenfelter has taken the car to the next level. Edmunds Inside Line came across the video below of the Lingenfelter LS9 Camaro dashing to its first (but likely not last) 8-second run, scoring a 8.997 at over 158 mph.
Judging by the wicked sound made by this beastly Camaro, we are guessing it runs on souls rather than race gas (though we could be wrong). This Camaro has come a long way since those early 10-second runs, and its power output has climbed substantially. It now puts out 1,243 horsepower and 1,328 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. Unbelievable!
It is hard to believe that it took another 400 horsepower just to lop off another 1.5 seconds, but as we mentioned before, this car has a full race weight of 4,075 pounds. It ain’t no lightweight in any way shape or form. The LS9 engine doesn’t even resemble itself anymore, fitted with new pistons, ported heads, a dry nitrous system, 4:10 gears and lots of other goodies. We’ll take two, please.
