1969 Chevrolet Corvette Race Car Heads To Auction

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 10.46.55 AMWe have covered our fair share of classic originals and gorgeous restorations, though we don’t often get the opportunity to showcase a true Corvette race car, at least not one with the type of history that this C3 possesses. This Vette will be crossing the Mecum Auction’s block during a Dallas, Texas event over September 16-19, listed as lot S210. The value on a car like this can be largely impacted by exactly who shows up at the auction, and appropriately no sale price estimation has been given.

The engine is a 422 ci V8, and produces 850 hp, that immense amount of power is routed through a four-speed manual gearbox. As you can see, the exterior is covered in a traditional red with a large BASF sponsor sticker laying diagonally across the hood. Hawk decals sit across the front bodywork, advertising their brake pad of choice. The interior has been been painted grey, and undoubtedly reflects the traditional race car minimalist design.

Further details provided by Mecum include:

– IMSA race car built by Greenwood Race Shop
– Built for John Carusso and Lyn St. James
– Placed 6th overall at Daytona 24 Hour race in 1976
– Recent $200,000 restoration by Dinwiddie Motorsports
– Daytona record holder most miles in 24 hours for small block Corvette
– Held record for 20 years
– Over 50 IMSA starts
– SCCA BP championships at Road Atlanta
– F.I.A paperwork and race history
– Sold on bill of sale

Whether you want to participate in some awesome vintage road racing, or simply appreciate having such a historically significant Vette in your collection; the upcoming Dallas auction is the place for you.
