A Turn For The Better: Upgrading The Steering On A Fifth-Gen Camaro

The Chevrolet fifth-gen Camaro was a versatile machine from the factory. After coming off the F-body platform, Chevy spent a few years, eight to be exact, before releasing the latest Camaro, which had people’s heads spinning. The completely redesigned machine offered modern vintage styling with a 6.2-liter engine with 426 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque backed by an automatic or manual transmission. 

While this new car got a lot of things right, like all vehicles, it also had some issues. Unfortunately, after putting these cars through their paces, weak links are quickly realized. A quick internet search churns up all kinds of problems for the fifth-gen Camaro. And one of the first things to go with “spirited” driving or racing at the autocross is the steering pump. Fortunately, Turn One offers a couple of options for the fifth-gen Camaro owner. 

Turn One’s HP1 and HP2 Series pumps are a direct replacement for the factory GM part, but that’s where the similarities end.

Turn One HP1

First up is Turn One’s HP1 Series pump. This unit is a direct replacement for the factory GM part, but that’s where the similarities end. These units are hand-built at the company’s facility right here in the US. The HP1 pumps come with proprietary internals that reduce horsepower consumption and heat in the power steering system.

  • Stock flow rate
  • Lightweight aluminum housing with integral baffled reservoir
  • All brand new components, built in the USA
  • Optional billet aluminum pulley upgrade
  • Direct replacement and upgrade for stock Camaro pump

Turn One HP2

The HP2 pumps offer all of the advantages of the HP1 but with even more upgrades. Unlike the HP1, the HP2 Series allows for custom tuning with adjustable pressure capacity and flow rate for high-performance driving. 

This unit also includes high-temperature SKF driveshaft bearings for the ultimate in dependability. Turn One also offers a driveshaft safety upgrade for the HP2 pumps for those of you running supercharged powerplants. The HP2 Series is an excellent upgrade for autocross, drifting, and other competitive racing vehicles.
