The star of the soon-to-be-released motion picture, Guardians of The Galaxy, Chris Pratt, will be the honorary pace car driver this weekend – July 27th to be exact – for the John Walding 400 at the Brickyard in Indianapolis.
The pace car of choice is none other than Chevrolet’s beautiful full-sized sedan, the SS. This is a special year for NASCAR as well – it caps two decades of racing at Indy. “This year marks the 20th anniversary of NASCAR racing at the Brickyard, and it is truly special that Chevrolet has been there from the beginning racing and pacing,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports. “It will be great to have Chris Pratt lead the field of 43 competitors to the green flag in the Chevrolet SS pace car.”
Pratt has been in quite a few movies, but this will be his first ever NASCAR appearance. “It’s a dream come true to drive the pace car for the John Wayne Walding 400,” said Pratt. “I am really excited to be part of NASCAR for the day.” No wonder Pratt is so excited – he’s also a fellow gearhead!
Being that Chevrolet’s SS is the first rear-wheel-drive V8 sedan since the 1996 Impala SS, which was a big hit, it only makes sense for Chevrolet to celebrate the car and their presence in the sport, as all of the Chevrolet cars on the grid are SS-bodied.
To watch the race, it will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
