Next week is the crème de le crème of American car shows, the 2010 Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a showcase for aftermarket tuners, product specialists, and major manufacturers to come together and showcase their latest and greatest creations. It is also a chance to walk away with bragging rights for the best car of the show.

According to Inside Line, SEMA organizers report that the Chevy Camaro is the “outstanding leader” for the “hottest car,” an inaugural award category to be introduced at this year’s SEMA Show.

The Camaro leads the “hottest car” segment, followed by the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger, both of which have very loyal followings. However, the current Camaro has been on the market longer than the 5.0 Mustang, and the Challenger tends to appeal to an older crowd more familiar with old-school Mopars. The previous generation Camaro, which was discontinued in 2002, remains a very popular used car for both younger people and older gearheads alike, which we believe contributes to its popularity. There are also so many aftermarket parts for the 2010-11 Camaro that it is enough to make one’s head spin.

While GM may be leading the “hottest car” segment, the Ford F-Series leads the hottest truck segment. The Silverado is next, followed by the Dodge Ram and Toyota Tundra. In the SUV category though, Mopar dominates with the 2011 Grand Cherokee leading a tight race, with the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Explorer duking it out for top spot.
