The staff and management of a small Lexington, North Carolina, Chevrolet dealership are working with authorities to help decipher how a ring of car thieves drove seven vehicles off its lot during two burglaries the same night. An employee of Capital Chevrolet Buick GMC reported the break-in to the Lexington Police Department on Sunday, February 19, 2023, less than an hour after thieves finished their second round of pilferage.

According to reports, the dealership’s General Manager, Chris Clark, stated that the break-in was noted when an associate came in Sunday morning and noticed the busted glass. Police arrived at the dealership around 7:30 that morning, according to reports. Management quickly handed over valuable security footage to authorities. It was revealed that the thieves not only rounded up cars during one ring of thefts but returned to the dealership for a second helping of high-dollar cars.

Security video shows three men and a woman coming in from behind the dealership’s building around 2 a.m. and using a crowbar to break into the dealership. Once inside, the crew quickly located the store’s lockbox containing the keys to the vehicles. The thieves also broke into the dealership’s server room and disconnected the store’s internet service.

It became obvious after viewing the security footage that the hooded thieves had visited this dealership before. The store’s general manager stated in an interview, “You can tell they’ve been at this dealership before because they came in here and knew exactly where to go. They knew exactly what they were looking for and where to start.”

The thieves quickly rounded up four vehicles during their first heist but returned several hours later for three more. In all, seven cars were stolen during those early morning hours, including a 2020 (C8) Chevrolet Corvette 2LT, a 2015 (C7) Chevrolet Corvette Z51, a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro SS and 2021 Chevy Camaro LT1, a Dodge Charger, and two BMWs. In total, the value of cars stolen in both visits is estimated at over $344,000.

Once the perpetrators had the keys to the vehicles, they simply drove them off the lot, seven cars in total.

The store’s general manager says, “We had everything locked up, the alarms were on, and everything was how it should’ve been. It was just their timing was quicker than everybody else’s.” It is also noted that the second round of thefts occurred just before 6 a.m. The car thieves wrapped up for the evening minutes before the employee arrived on the premises and noted the break-in.
