No Prep racing is still a developing giant in the drag racing world, and it could be entering an exciting new phase. Class racing legend Mike Murillo and Street Outlaws star Scott Taylor joined forces to bring the Dirty South No Prep Race Series to life, and are changing the face of the No Prep world as they go. This new series is a mixture of class and no prep racing that is causing some buzz in the No Prep universe. All you need to do is check out their website and Facebook page to see what everybody is talking about!
By building the series into a combination of class racing and No Prep, Murillo has turned some heads. “I’m the old school class racer that’s come into the No Prep world, and I get looked at kind of funny for bringing this points idea in. I could tell that this wasn’t a big deal with the racers at first, until we had a couple of races and then they saw what’s up. Now, going into the third race these guys are seeing the points on paper, and all of a sudden it’s a big deal to them,” Murillo says.
The unique format of the Dirty South series makes the earning of points even more interesting. Racers have to be on their game at all times if they want to stay in the hunt for the title. “The racers are really starting to pay attention because the finals are a double points race, and there’s no dropped races in the series. If you’re trying to win it, you need to go to all of them. The double points finals makes it exciting because it could take a guy who didn’t make all the races that’s further back in the standings and make him a threat. Mix in the egos, callouts, and competitive nature of these racers and the finals are going to be wild for sure,” Murillo explains.
Is there the possibility that this points system could alter the face of No Prep racing? According to Murillo it could.
“I do think putting the points in play will change things. Going into the third event, guys realize that these races really count. The racers look at the points standings and they want to climb that list bad. This could really open up the competitive juices for the racers even more. It became evident how adding in the points system turned things up after we posted the points online and the trash talk between racers and their camps got heavy quick.”
