Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series Finishes Up The Season

Even though we got a late start to the racing season due to the current pandemic, tracks all over the country were able to open up and start racing again. Unfortunately, the winter months are on the way, which means the racing season is over. Last weekend, the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series held it’s the final race for the year in conjunction as part of the 19th Annual Nitrous Supply NMCA World Street Finals. Like the NMCA events before it, the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series didn’t disappoint with the five super competitive classes.

In Late Model Engines (LME) Street King, Joey Moore was the number one qualifier with a 10.01 on a 10.00 index in his Camaro. Moore was consistent on the tree all the way to the final round of eliminations. There he cut a .029 light and staying in the throttle and broke out with a time of 9.97 on a 10.00 dial to win as his competitor Austin Tewell turned on the dreaded red bulb.

Cody Poston took the top qualifying position with a 10.50 on a 10.50 index in his Camaro. Like Moore, he also cruised to the final round to meet David Rickey in his Camaro. Rickey had the better reaction time in the finals and won the race with an 11.01 on an 11.00 dial-in. Poston broke out with a 10.46.

In the Chevrolet Performance Stock Class presented by Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center, Scott Brown was the number one qualifier and the only driver in the teens with a 10.18 out of his Camaro. James Jekel took the 13-second win as Cody Wright acquired the 14-second win.

The Brian Tooley Racing (BTR) Real Street Shootout consists of LS and LT powered cars, was a unique element for this event. Xtreme Street racers Bill Trovato and Jessie Coulter showed up with their Camaros and made it to the final round of eliminations. It was a close race between the to as Trovato, who took the win with a 4.71 to Coulter’s 4.76.

Unfortunately, the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series champions will not be recognized at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show this year since it was canceled for 2020. However, according to the NMRA, they were celebrated in a special Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle with their family and friends.
