If there’s one thing that almost all Corvette owners can agree on is that a clean Corvette is a happy Corvette. How they GET clean is often up for debate and has infiltrated forum thread after forum thread on what is the absolute, no-discussion, God-ordained way to clean a Corvette.
There are so many “secret potions” and tricks of the trade that the entire spectrum has become fodder for the interwebs. We’ve found a couple of instances that stand out as the absolute opposite ends of the world-wide-web. From know-how to no-way, you can pick which example fits your needs specifically, but they also show that you shouldn’t always go by what is popular.
Mother’s Car Care Products is just that, an entire line of products that are specially engineered to make your Corvette’s appearance the best it can be, inside and out. They’ve been caring for the finish on autos ever since the ‘70s, when they introduced their Mag & Aluminum Polish. Over the years, their line of car-care products has grown to address almost every conceivable surface on your auto.
Having the best products to clean your ride is only half of the battle. Knowing how to use them is the only way to make the most of their application. (For more on that, we’ll defer you to our second video.) But, Mother’s has utilized the digital age and successfully shows how to use many of their products through YouTube and other venues, such as holding seminars and car-care classes at events throughout the year.
The first step in successfully cleaning your Corvette is washing it properly. Since that is the first step, that’s where we’ll spend the bulk of our time discussing. Our first video from Mother’s will illustrate the PROPER way to clean your Corvette. There are a few things that bear repeating, and there may be a few things in the video that you hadn’t known before. Either way, it’s worth watching.
From there, we jump off the cliff and fall head-long into the abyss of car-care faux-pas. Remember when we said don’t always fall for what is popular? Well, this video has been making the rounds of social media and has literally tens of thousands of views. But, while it IS popular, it’s not recommended.
Okay, while we’ve been known to stand on a roof or two, doing our best impressions of winning at Daytona, Talladega or the like, there’s no way we’d recommend or attempt to clean a Corvette like this. Perhaps the guy misunderstood what was meant by, “from the top, down?”
Either way, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do everything. While these are quite different, there are also a million tips & tricks to help you do the scrubbing with the least amount of sweating. Much like when it comes to what motor oils are best to use in your Corvette’s engine, it seems that everyone has a preferred way of doing things to get their car clean.
If you’ve got a preferred method of showing pride in your ride, feel free to let us know how YOU do it. Are there any life-hacks to make this job easier, better? Let us know what works for you- do’s, don’ts or whatnot. We’ll be sure to share with the rest of our readers. Maybe, we might even be able to show this guy a thing or two!
