We’ve seen time and time again how peer pressure can build quicker than a turbo car’s boost on a trans-brake. Like having a larger turbo, the more eyes you put on a subject, the stronger the urge to follow the old adage, “If you’re going to make a scene – be seen!”

A case in point is this C6 Corvette that dives into a crowd of people as it leaves a Cars and Coffee Southlake event in Trophy Club, Texas. We’re sure the authorities and various legal entities will be working out the liability details for quite some time. Suffice it to say, this sheds a very negative light on enthusiasts as a whole and does nothing to encourage holding similar events around the country.

The essential fact surrounding unfortunate events such as this is that they are entirely preventable. Sure, the crowd was standing curb-side-close to the action, and many were over the white line and standing in the road. However, several cars had already passed by without incident, so what happened when it came to this Corvette’s turn?

Reports are putting the blame on an inexperienced driver in the C6. Looking at the video, you can still see smoke coming from the rear tires, even after the car is pointed (and headed) squarely toward the crowd. At that point, you’ve already lost the race, so to speak. The same forces of nature that all your horsepower has just overcome to get you into this situation will ultimately dictate how it will all play out.

The sad part is the decision of the driver and physics quickly incorporated three bystanders. Reports indicate that a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds were injured. One teen suffered a leg injury, and another can be seen hitting her head on the Corvette as it entered the crowd.

This video went viral on social media and the local news stations, etching in many peoples’ minds the dangers involved with holding such an event. The Cars and Coffee Southlake events are ongoing, according to the event’s Facebook page. We wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few more restrictions pulling back the reins on those who may be subject to peer pressure though. So as we ramp up for this year’s show season, keep this video on your playlist, and don’t forget that the best way to prevent tragedies such as this is to tighten up that loose nut behind the wheel! Events like this are often described as a show, but that doesn’t mean they need to turn into a three-ring circus.
