Next year marks the 60th anniversary of America sports car’s competitive career, with 1956 being the year it made its debut in motorsports. And, in that 60 years, Corvette has built quite a heritage for itself, making it what it is today- one of the most distinguished cars in endurance racing.
The current face of the Corvette’s motorsports presence, Corvette Racing, has been delivering victories since 1999 with close to 100 wins worldwide. Corvette Racing is a partnership between Chevrolet and Pratt & Miller Engineering, who build, tune and race the incredible race-spec ‘Vettes.
In a statement from Mark Kent, Director for Corvette Racing, he expressed that, “Success requires a Corvette race car that demonstrates the proper balance of performance, reliability and efficiency.”
“Winning also requires flawless execution by the team and drivers,” added Kent.
In consonance with this understanding, the program has always maintained a high-caliber crew with some of the most talented drivers in the sport.
According to a recent announcement, Corvette Racing will be bolstering their lineup even further for the coming year’s IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championships.
Marcel Fassler and Mike Rockenfeller, both experienced champions, will be racing a pair of C7Rs at the Daytona 2016 Rolex 24 Hours and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Fassler has previously competed for Corvette in three races with a win at the 24 Hours of Spa but, has yet to race the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Rockenfeller, on the other hand, has raced both, the Rolex 24 and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours, and has been named an overall winner.
Both drivers also have numerous other championship wins and podium finishes under their belt. The addition of their skills to Corvette Racing is sure to give the team some serious advantage.
