Dakota Digital Brings Things Up Six-Degrees With Car Features

In addition to checking out the great instrument and dash options, there is a torrent of great reasons to visit Dakota Digital’s homepage on the internet. Dakota Digital has revamped its website with a standard homepage featuring the company’s online catalog and a couple of interesting and new departments.

Of particular interest is a section that is slated to become a company magazine of sorts, led by a “Six-Degrees” column. References are made to the “Motor Market Magazine” which leads us to believe there are more monthly columns coming to the site.

The “Six Degrees” column has an exciting concept that features well-built custom vehicles featuring Dakota Digital instrument panels and gauges. The plan is to feature a car every month to “bring a local connection to these truly unique rides.”

If what we have seen is any indication of what is to come in the months ahead, count us in!

Paint It Black

The first feature we came across was February’s Tri-Five feature in an article titled: Paint it Black. Sadly, the column’s author is uncredited, but the written work is very good. The length of the article is quick and to the point, but we’d gladly read more about the featured ’55 Chevy.

Ironically, and correctly, the author points out how many ’55-’56-’57 Chevy Tri-Fives there are at car shows. The “You’ve seen one and you’ve seen ‘em all,” mentality is prevalent when there are so many around. To that statement, the Dakota Digital author asks if you’ve really seen them all? Thankfully, we say “No.”

The story behind this ’55 Chevy build goes like this: Jon Mannila, the owner of MetalWorks Speed Shop in Eugene, Oregon got a call from a client awhile back with a simple request, “I want a 1955 Chevy, and I want it painted black.” Jon provided an artist’s rendering to the client with his vision and got the green light to make it happen. He found a ’55 Chevy roller, tore it down, and had it acid dipped. “They all look different with their clothes off.”

He had no problem completing the task including the special final request in the build. This Chevy had to pack 1,000hp too. That was nothing a Wegner Motorsports built 427 LS with a Whipple Supercharger couldn’t handle.
