The revival and return of the Camaro to Chevrolet’s portfolio after an eight year absence is much reason to celebrate. To this day, we’re still baffled that GM killed Camaro production to back out of its UAW contract. Sales were intentionally allowed to slump, despite that in 2002, there was no American car capable of touching the Camaro SS with its powerful LS1 engine and superior suspension system. Alas, the last of these cars disappeared with nary a whimper, and many enthusiasts were unsure if it’d ever return.
So it shouldn’t be surprising that a low-mileage example of what might have been the last Camaro has shown up on eBay. This 2002, fully-loaded Camaro SS has just under 4,000 miles on the odometer, and looks as fresh as if it just came off the factory floor.
The Camaro was a car built to be driven, hard. Many enthusiasts pushed these cars to their absolute limit, and because the LS1 engines were so receptive to modifications, many saw duty as street racers, drag racers, and even road course cars. As a result, finding an un-abused LS1 Camaro can be difficult; finding one as clean as this eBay car is close to impossible.
With just 3,997 miles on the odometer, the seller claims that this car never saw rain, was always well taken care of, and has just a handful of tasteful modifications. To avoid a gas guzzler tax, a second-gear skip-shift mechanism was installed by the factory, and while it improved fuel efficiency, it siphoned out fun. The owner of this Camaro removed this silly device, and added an SLP air intake, a Y-pipe exhaust, and aluminum differential cover.
Otherwise, this car is 100% as it came from the factory floor, and even still has the original window sticker and instruction manual. It’s as complete a 2002 Camaro as you will ever find, and with a Buy-It-Now price right around the MSRP of a brand new V6 Camaro, we think this is a pretty square deal for a soon-to-be-classic.
