When Ford announced the end of the Crown Victoria, General Motors was ready to pounce with a powerful replacement; the Caprice PPV. Much to the chagrin of most consumers though, GM is only selling these large, rear-drive sedans to police departments. While a few managed to squeeze out the door when production first started, GM has been slow to deliver the promised replacement for the Crown Vic. And apparently, the Caprice is receiving a lukewarm reception at some departments.

Carscoop came across not one, but three Chevy Caprice PPV up for sale on eBay, including a bright red “undercover” vehicle. Ill tidings for GM’s attempt to get back into the police car market?

The first Caprice, located in New Braunfels, Texas, is the most obvious police car of the bunch in its black-and-white duds. There is no reason given for the sale of this vehicle, and with just 260 miles on the odometer, it is basically brand new. The Buy It Now price is just under $26,000, while the MSRP was nearly $32,000.

The second car is from Peoria, Illinois, and is less obviously a cop car. With about 9,300 miles on the odometer, this car at least got some use…though it too has found its way to a used car dealership. There is even less background on this car, making us wonder just what it’s story is.

Finally there is this bright red “detective” model of the Caprice PPV, though how a car nobody else can even buy is supposed to “blend in”, we don’t exactly know. With over 6,000 miles on it, this PPV also qualifies as a slightly-used vehicle. Furthermore the dealership claims to have at least eight of these Caprice PPV vehicles for sale, including 5 regular and 3 undercover cars. Sounds like at least one department completely divested itself of Chevy’s cop car.

Lest we be called out as biased, we should note that there are exactly 0 Ford Taurus Police Interceptors up for sale no eBay, and just two Dodge Chargers, both of them 2007 models with high mileage. On the plus side, for anyone wanting a Bowtie-badged rear-drive sedan with a V8 under the hood, here’s your chance.
