When most people see the red-and-blues of a police cruiser in their rearview mirror, they pull over and prepare to comply (or complain) with the officer’s assessment of their driving. But what if you pulled over for what you thought was a cop who then pulled a gun on you and demanded you hand over all your money? What the hell do you do in that situation?
That’s happened at least twice on Highway 43 in Maury County, Tennessee, reports News Channel 5, though the car the crooks are using isn’t a Crown Victoria, or even a Chevy Caprice. Nope, it’s a bright yellow, late-model Camaro.
There have been at least two suspected highway robberies since Monday, and the thieves made off with about $120 in the most recent theft. The story doesn’t specify if the Camaro is equipped with flashing lights or what, but we assume the crooks are using some method for getting unsuspecting drivers to pull over. These crooks then claim they’re undercover cops, before pulling a gun and robbing drivers.
Tennessee troopers are increasing their presence on the highway, and asking for public assistance in finding the perpetrators. Authorities suspect it might be a local with knowledge of the area, though so far the only lead they have is that the pair of crooks drives a yellow Camaro. It’s starting to sound a little bit like Mad Max in rural Tennessee if you ask us. Thunderdome, anyone?
