While almost everyone looking to own a 2014 C7 Corvette will have to wait until later this year, one very lucky enthusiast will be able to secure their purchase of a new Stingray this weekend. That’s because, according to GM News, Chevrolet is teaming up with Barrett-Jackson to offer the first production model of the 2014 Corvette for bid at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, with proceeds from the sale going to benefit the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. Not only does this lot include the very first C7 Corvette of its production round, with Vehicle Identification Number 0001, it also gives the buyer the opportunity to indirectly contribute to future automotive designs.

Founded in 1906, the College for Creative Studies was one of the first art institutes to recognize the automobile as a form of art. Since then, the Detroit-based school has been an integral part in the city’s automotive growth.

Over 1,400 students enroll at the school annually pursuing degrees in areas like Design and Transportation Design, lending to the ever-growing design ideas behind the industry’s latest vehicles.

Currently, more than 170 CCS alumni work for GM Design studios, including those that worked to create the new C7 model.

“The new Stingray features a modern, dramatic design that will inspire a new generation of Corvette enthusiasts,” Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design said in a recent article from GM News. “With the proceeds of the new Stingray going to the CCS, the new Corvette will also help cultivate the next generation of designers who may work on modern, dramatic Chevrolets in the future. In fact more than 170 CCS alumni already work in the GM Design studios.”

Along with the rights to the first production C7 (lot #3016), Chevrolet will also be auctioning off GM CEO Dan Akerson’s 1958 Corvette, the last 2012 COPO Camaro (an Inferno Orange convertible with VIN 0069), Guy Fieri’s personalized 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition, and a 2013 Camaro ZL1 convertible during the auction. Proceeds from these cars will also go to a variety of charities, from the American Heart Association to the Habitat for Humanity’s work to improve Detroit’s Morningside Commons neighborhood.

The auctions for these specialty cars start on Thursday, January 17th and continue on through Sunday, January 20th. The first C7 Corvette will cross the auction block on the evening of Saturday the 19th and will be broadcast on SPEED.
