A Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 owner, known as MrDragy, recently completed a series of speed tests. He used a data tracking device to measure his car’s performance. His best result, 6.77 seconds from 60 to 130 miles per hour, following several attempts. Prior tests with standard fuel yielded times in the low 7-second range.
MrDragy altered his vehicle’s fuel mixture for this test. He added approximately two gallons of VP Racing‘s C85 fuel to the tank. The car previously contained E40 fuel. This modification aimed to see if the increased ethanol content would affect performance. He expressed uncertainty about the result, saying, “Is the car going to slow down because it’s not used to a higher ethanol blend, and the C85 has a lower stoich? Is the car going to run lean? I don’t know.”
Low traction presented a consistent issue during tests. The tires struggled to grip, particularly during the initial acceleration phase. MrDragy adjusted the car’s settings, utilizing a Z mode with PT1 race mode, to help manage wheel spin. He noted that this allowed him to record a 7.06-second run despite the vehicle spinning its tires.
After adding the C85 fuel, his first attempt resulted in a 7.06. The second run produced an impressive 6.77-second time. “I just cracked off a 6.77, yes, it’s valid,” MrDragy said. A prior run produced a 6.83, but the system marked it as invalid. The successful attempt occurred with a density altitude of negative 420.
The C8 z06 was low on both fuel and washer fluid during the test. MrDragy mentioned he was “low on fuel” and acknowledged the car might be “running a little lean” with the C85. Despite achieving his goal, he decided against further tests.
“That 6.77 was such a clean pass,” he stated, opting to cease runs to avoid potential issues. He also said, “I could sit and talk for hours about how challenging this has been to just make things align.” After hitting their goal, he planned to move on to other car projects, including tests with a Mustang GTD. “That’s it for this thing, I’m done. I can move to the next chapter,” MrDragy said.
