Not all retro inspired vehicles are well-received by consumers; Ford found success with retro modernism on the Mustang, but the Chevy SSR, despite being conceptually cool, never really found its place. Some people will love a car no matter what is said about it, but in the case of a production vehicle, mass appeal is critical. Autoholics found a restyled SSR that really achieves a blend of classic and modern that is more commonly found in the PT Cruiser world. A 1953 Chevy 3100 front end along with other styling aspects were grafted to the SSR, making for a visual guilty pleasure.
Autoholics provided a link to Hot Rods & Custom Stuff, the creative masterminds minds behind the SSR transformation. Keeping with the ’53 motif, 3100 emblems were added along with the mandatory Chevrolet name across the tailgate. The existing SSR rear taillights were not ideal for this project and the original ’53 taillights presented mounting issues, which led the builders to improvise and create a way to provide the proper ’53 look for this project. Details are key to making a car aesthetically pleasing, and achieving the proper balance of modern and classic, with craftsmanship epitomizes the spirit of a car builder. The devil is in the details and regardless of personal bias or opinion, this SSR is nothing but detailed.
