It Came from eBay: 1981 C3 “The Beast”

Isn’t it amazing what a little paint and polish can do to your car? Why, with just a few days or weeks of your time, you can take an otherwise ordinary car and make it… special.

C3BeastlicenseplateSometimes, however, you’ve just gotta sell that Corvette. But how well will it sell when it’s adorned with airbrushed checkered flags, a demonic mural, and called “The Beast”? This Indy resident has been waiting patiently on his 21-day eBay listing to find out.

This car is all about appearance, from its candy apple red paint and a silver interior to the stylized custom air cleaner cover. With a nickname like that, it’s clear that the owner didn’t want anyone mistaking his “vice” (see left) for some other, lesser Corvette with a red bra.

This isn’t to say that the aesthetics are all the owner has done since he purchased the car. Under the hood sits a 355 engine that was installed at around 90K miles, giving power to a relatively fresh 700R4 transmission with overdrive which replaced the aging Hydra-Matic.

The suspension operates on mono-leaf front and rear fiberglass springs and Bilstein shocks. The owner claims to have new brake calipers all around.

Oddly enough, he lists the power options as air conditioning, power locks, power windows, and power seats, despite the fact that two of those options–locks and seats–do not work. Oh well, you can’t have everything, and it’s small potatoes for a car that’s survived 125,000 miles with a decent interior and ghastly unique paint job.

A Kenwood sound system, Vintage Air climate control system, and careful maintenance round out the rest of the features. Details on the great-looking wheels and tires are left out, as is the name of the artist responsible for the sick airbrushing done to the side panels and hood.

This car isn’t for everyone, but with a $25k Buy It Now price, it might just be the perfect car for a buyer with matching taste. Is this car as good as sold, or is it destined for a future relisting?
