Obviously nobody needs a reason to drive their Corvette to work on any given day. However, for many Corvette owners, their ‘Vette is a “special occasion car.” Well, we’ve got a special occasion for you. The first of July is Official Drive Your Corvette to Work Day. That means if you’ve got one, you won’t be “Corvette-like” if you don’t drive it to work. So, get your baby cleaned and polished and get her ready to carry you to work and be shown off on Friday.
Drive Your Corvette To Work Day Helps Celebrate The Finishing of Corvette Number One
Drive Your Corvette to Work Day is one of those “floating holidays” that has no fixed celebration day; the Friday closest to the 30th of June is when it’s held every year. You would be forgiven for thinking that event/holiday is held to help inaugurate the Fourth of July weekend. However, you’d be wrong. The event was started 16 years ago to commemorate the day the first Corvette rolled off the production line back in 1953.
We can thank Mike Yager, founder of Mid America Motorworks for this tradition. Yager says “We understand that many owners consider their Corvette to be a special car and only drive it occasionally, but we think driving your Corvette to work, at least one day a year, is an excellent way to demonstrate just how popular Corvettes are. And it is a chance for Corvette owners to meet new Corvette owners.” The event is celebrated worldwide by thousands of people and the goal is to get as many ‘Vettes on the road as possible, making the humdrum commute to work an ode to the favorite Sports Car of America.
Mid America wants all participants to post pictures of themselves with their Corvettes on their Facebook page. If you do, post a link to your picture in the comments section below!
