When going to a Goodguys event one expects to see gorgeous cars, a lot of people, and even some autocross action. However, attendees were treated to quite a display of driving skill by a two time Indy 500 winner, Al Unser Jr. Behind the wheel of his LSX-powered 1970 1/2 Camaro, Unser Jr. navigated the cones with precision and speed. Autocross requires a delicate balance of handling and horsepower with an incredibly skilled driver, such as Unser Jr.
Unser Jr. or “Junior,” is a seasoned veteran of auto racing. In his youth, Junior got his start racing Sprint cars before moving on to the World of Outlaws, IROC, CART, a NASCAR race, and eventually, the Indy Racing League. During his racing career Junior achieved two Indianapolis 500 wins. Needless to say, Junior is well qualified to handle the course at Goodguys, and he put on one heck of a show.
Making it look way too easy, Junior pushed the Camaro through course without tipping a cone, let alone launching one into the air. Junior may have officially retired from professional racing, but once racing is in your blood, it is very difficult not get behind the wheel of fast car every once in a while.
So the next time you happen to be perusing all the happenings at a Goodguys event, be sure to see who is participating. You never know, you might get the chance to meet a guy that could possibly give you a few pointers about some stuff.
