Internet sleuths and backroom whispers have hinted at a new performance sedan from General Motors, and earlier in the year GM revealed that they were, in fact, bringing a new model to their lineup called the Chevy SS. But before we meet the production car, GM first wants to introduce us to its adrenaline junkie cousin; the NASCAR racing version.
The Chevrolet SS will replace the Impala as the NASCAR vehicle for Bowtie bandits. The Impala nameplate has racked up 151 wins during its stock car racing years from 1959 to 1964 and 2007 through 2012. While we’ll miss the Impala, the Chevy SS excites us in a whole new way.
With this first clear look at the Chevrolet SS NASCAR, we now have a better idea of what GM’s new rear-drive performance sedan will look like. We already know that the Chevrolet SS will be based on the Holden Commodore VF – Australia’s badass big muscle sedan. Other than that though, GM has no new details to share with us regarding their upcoming sedan.
From what we can tell though, it doesn’t appear as though the Chevrolet SS will stray too far from the look and feel of the Holden it is based on. Expect a long hood, big body, and a fairly standard corporate front fascia…though hotter performance versions could see something markedly more aggressive.
After seeing this official picture, are you more excited for the Chevrolet SS sedan…or less?
