New Improvements To BorgWarner AirWerks Turbochargers

img_airwerks2BorgWarner has been a supplier of turbochargers for the performance aftermarket for more than 60 years. Their forced induction solutions have spanned all forms of motorsports and racing from drag racing to tractor pulls and more. New additions to the AirWerks line of performance turbos are coming out of BorgWarner and we want to share the news!

S300SX-E TurbochargerThe AirWerks line of turbos includes two sizes currently available and two coming down the line in the near future. The S200X-E features inducer sizes ranging from 52 to 57 mm and is best suited to smaller engine applications. The sub compact market and import tuning crowd can benefit from the improved technology and materials engineering of these units. The Formula Drift application of turbo chargers in this range is wide open.

The bigger brother to the S200X-E is the S300X-E, available in five sizes ranging from 61.4-69 mm inducer sizes. This turbo is geared towards the domestic car and diesel market, where engine displacement can support the bigger turbo. The S300X-E features a 360-degree thrust bearing, and flexible compressor cover outlet options.

S200 and S300SX-E

A variety of compressor and turbine housing aerodynamics will be available with the AirWerks S200 and S300 turbos.

Coming soon to the line of AirWerks turbos are the S400SX and S500SX available in sizes ranging from 67-82 mm, and 88-95 mm respectively. These turbos will be marketed toward the all-out race applications where big displacement, and high horsepower are the highest priority. Developed with GM’s in-house racing program, these turbos will now be made available to the public with a variety of turbine housing flow characteristics for different applications. These high-tech turbochargers employ BorgWarner’s hydrodynamic journal bearings, high pressure-ratio compressor stages, and extended-tip technology to offer superior spool up and boost output in the range of 70 psi!

The GM Racing Cobalt went 7.292 at 201.61 mph in 2005. Now the same technology will be available to private drag racers.

Under the GM racing banner the FWD Cobalt was the first sub compact to break the 200 mph barrier in the quarter mile running a S400SX turbo.

Now available from BorgWarner, are replacement AirWerks turbo super cores to upgrade your existing S200 and S300 frames. These cores feature several improvments including:

-360 degree thrust bearings

-Compressor cover integrated speed sensor port and pre-machined boost port

-Flexible compressor cover outlet options

-Forged milled compressor wheels with extended tip technology

-Optimized compressor stage aerodynamics

-Interchangeable with existing turbine housings for upgradeability

The Team Turbo4 rail employs a single S400SX3 turbo, also seen in the lead image.

With the option to replace the compressor and turbine core to a new AirWerks unit, BorgWarner has created a simple option for turbo retrofits on performance vehicles. The mantra of the AirWerks line is “Simple, Scalable, Strong”. With these priorities in mind, the AirWerks cores supply the aftermarket with a modular forced induction option for both gas and diesel applications.

Diesel drag race applications can benefit from compound S400 and S500 set ups as found on the trucks of Philip Palmer, and Team XDP.
