Despite the huge popularity of the current fifth-gen Camaro, we have to admit that they’re not perfect. One of the few drawbacks is the weight, and many enthusiasts, even owners, will tell you that. There are many ways around this handicap, and one of those is changing the rear gear set to improve off-the-line performance. Our friends at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering have just sent us over the release on these new pinion sets!
Official Release:
2012 CAMARO SS RING & PINION GEAR SETS AVAILABLE FROM LINGENFELTER PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING
DECATUR, Ind. – Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) offers premium ring & pinion gear sets for the 2010-2012 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Manufactured by an original equipment gear supplier and designed to meet OE specifications for long life and quiet operation, all gears are 100 percent single flank rolled to ensure that no gears are unacceptable for noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics. The gear sets fit both manual and automatic transmission Camaro SS differentials. Lingenfelter’s Camaro ring & pinion gear sets are available in several different ratios. The LPE Camaro 3.70 ring & pinion (part # L380011410) features a 10-tooth pinion and 37-tooth ring design.
Lingenfelter testing has shown their installed 3.70:1 ratio Camaro SS ring & pinion kit provides a 7% increase in rear wheel torque multiplication compared to the factory 3.45 ring & pinion for manual transmission vehicles. The kit offers a 13% increase in rear wheel torque multiplication compared to the factory 3.27 ring & pinion on automatic-equipped vehicles. Manual transmission vehicles will see an increase of 100 RPM while cruising at 60 mph in 6th gear, while AT model vehicles will achieve a 220 RPM increase under the same conditions.
Featuring an 11-tooth pinion and 43-tooth ring gear design, the Lingenfelter Camaro 3.91 ring & pinion set is designed to provide increased torque multiplication for improved quarter-mile performance. It delivers a 13% increase in rear wheel torque multiplication compared to the factory 3.45 ring & pinion for manual transmission vehicles and a 20% increase in rear wheel torque multiplication compared to the factory 3.27 ring & pinion on automatic-equipped vehicles.
While cruising at 60 mph in 6th gear, a manual transmission vehicle will see an increase in engine speed of 180 RPM. Automatic transmission vehicles will see an increase of 300 RPM. Installation of the Lingenfelter Camaro SS ring & pinion gear sets in manual transmission model vehicles does not require electronic control module (ECM) programming.
Automatic vehicles will require ECM programming changes to correct the speedometer, which is available from Lingenfelter as an option. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering’s Camaro SS ring & pinion sets are available as a ring & pinion only or as a complete differential assembly. The differential assembly is available as a new assembly or built from the customer’s core.
