If you’re pushing for better performance with a GM 6.6-liter L8T crate engine or own a late-model GM truck, here’s some good news for your engine’s health. ATI Performance Products just dropped a new L8T Super Damper for GM designed to handle the stresses that can overwhelm the stock crankshaft damper, especially when you push your engine hard.
This new arrival is built to directly swap in place of the factory GM damper. While it’s a perfect match for the stout 6.6-liter L8T engine, ATI made sure it also fits the related modern 2018 model year and newer 4.3-liter LV3 V6 as well as the 2019 model year and newer 5.3-liter L84 and 6.2-liter L87 powerplants. That covers a whole lot of popular trucks and potential engine swap foundations.
So, what makes it special? Well, the ATI Super Damper features a 7.480-inch diameter aluminum outer shell and internal elastomer and inertia weight ring design that effectively cancels out damaging crankshaft vibrations across all engine speeds, working well beyond gentle cruising conditions.
Inside, the proven elastomer and inertia weight design is built around a tough 4140 heat-treated hub with a standard 3/16 keyway. For peace of mind, it blows past the requirements for SFI 18.1 safety certification. It even has easy-to-read laser-etched timing marks. Take note that you’ll need to pair it with a bolt-on front pulley. The damper utilizes a four-groove belt setup for the A/C, but ATI offers OEM diameter, 10% underdrive, and several overdrive pulleys to allow the end user to run whatever belt drive they desire.
Factory dampers do their job OK under normal conditions. But when you start adding power, towing heavy, or hitting the track, that’s where the struggle begins. Those uncontrolled vibrations can lead to serious engine wear or even failure down the road. ATI specifically engineered its Super Damper to soak up those harmful harmonics, protecting your engine internals when it matters most.
This L8T Super Damper brings race-tested technology right to your truck or engine project. Think of it as smart insurance for that modern GM V8 – helping it stay reliable so you can actually use the power you’ve built, worry-free. It lets you push harder, knowing you’ve got protection far beyond the stock piece when things get serious.
