Summit Racing has teamed up with Dart to make building a high performance small block Chevy, big block Chevy, or GM LS short block as easy as opening a box and bolting stuff together. The kits feature these components:
These blocks are made to build big cubic inches. The small Chevy and LS block bore sizes start at 4.125 inches, and the big Chevy block has 4.600 inch bores. The blocks are bored within .010 inch of finish hone. The blocks are clearanced for stroker cranks—up to 3.750 inch for small Chevy, 3.622 or 4.00 inches for LS combinations, and 4.250 inch for big Chevy. The bore and stroke combinations let you build a 400 cubic inch small block, a 397 or 427 cubic inch LS, or a 565 cubic inch big block, with plenty of meat left to go even bigger on the bore size if you wish.
The Dart SHP blocks for small Chevy and LS feature splayed four-bolt mains, priority main oiling, extra-thick cylinder walls and main webbing, and improved water jacketing. The small Chevy block has provisions for OEM hydraulic roller cams, and the LS block has extended cylinder bores to better support the piston at Bottom Dead Center when using long-stroke cranks.
The Big M Sportsman block for big Chevy also features a splayed four-bolt main arrangement and priority main oiling. It has a standard 9.800 deck height and provisions for a sixth head stud in the valley for better head gasket seal.
The Summit Racing Dart Short Block kits come with K1 Technologies 4340 forged steel cranks and H-Beam connecting rods with ARP 2000 bolts. These have an excellent reputation for tolerance and finish. You also get forged pistons to build an engine in the 9.5 to 10.5:1 compression range, with the ability to mill the heads to bring compression up into the 11.5:1 range. We even have a kit for big block Chevy that lets you build a 14:1 compression brute using heads with 119cc combustion chambers. The Rest of the Story
Rounding out the Summit Racing Dart Short Block Kits are a set of file-fit piston rings; main, rod, and cam bearings; brass freeze plugs; galley plugs; and cylinder head dowel. The kits will require balancing and final cylinder honing, which a good machine shop can do for you. Lifter bore final honing may be required as well.
