Usually, when we look at the video website, we find a ton of Camaros, Mustangs, and a few other LS swaps of a similar variety. But our search this week led to something vastly different than anything we have ever seen before. We have featured some pretty crazy builds in the past, including an LS-swapped mail truck, turbo Winnebago, and even a Whipplecharged pontoon boat. But this project, might we the weirdest one of all.

Just when you thought you had seen it all, YouTube proves us wrong once again with an LS-swapped Snowcat.

The guys over at the YouTube channel WetShop somehow managed to get a hold of a 1980s model, Snowcat. Our southern readers might not even know what a Snowcat is because, honestly, we have never seen one down here in Texas and for a good reason. These vehicles were built for snow and lots of it. They can be used from everything from grooming ski slopes, hauling supplies, and driven on expeditions in some very harsh environments.

An old Chrysler powered this particular Snowcat, and you can tell by the dated wiring that it needed an update. So, the guys scrapped the engine and transmission and will replace it with a Gen IV LS engine out of a truck and a 4L60e transmission. Now before the 4l60 haters start bashing on this combination, the fellows have an idea of why this transmission will live. This vehicle is designed for climbing steep inclines at a snail’s pace. Therefore, it must be geared low, which “should” keep the transmission from seeing any heavy loads. Will it hold? Probably. Would we trust it? Not a chance. The guys did decide to go through the engine and replace the gaskets and seals as well and rebuilding the 4l60e transmission.

While this project is not going to set any land speed records, it is another crazy swap that we can get behind. Plus, it’s one more weird vehicle that we can say is LS-powered.
