TCI Engineering recently teased us with some photos of Pro Hockey player Jeff Finger’s ’69 Camaro, dubbed “Power Play”, currently under construction at Barry’s Speed Shop in Corona, California. Barry’s is no stranger to high caliber builds having numerous esteemed titles behind past builds including the 2010 GoodGuys Muscle Machine of the Year, two previous wins for GoodGuys street machine of the year and the AMBR award back in 2000.
Power Play is motivated by a LS2 crate engine that’s breathed heavily upon via a Magnuson Supercharger. Spent gasses are handled via stainless pipes, and Magnaflow mufflers will sing the tune. Out back there’s a Currie Enterprises 9-inch rearend to handle the twist, stuffed with 3.89:1 gears and a Tru-Trac differential. Gear changes will come the right way via a Tremec T-56 Six speed. The chassis has been given the full TCI treatment with the company’s tubular front frame rails, subframe connectors, transmission mount and driveshaft loop.
The front suspension is a custom IFS from TCI with coilovers. The rear uses their torque arm setup and coil overs as well. Massive Baer six piston calipers will do their best to claw away at some massive rotors when Finger hits the middle pedal.
Exterior changes appear to have been kept to a minimum, although the car is still technically under construction according to the TCI FaceBook page. You can tell that so far chrome work has been kept to a minimum, we see the drip rails have been retained, which we think gives a nice character line above the windows on the ’69. Also obvious but worth mentioning the color is a stealthy dark gray and the wheels although we don’t know yet what brand match the paint scheme nicely.
In recent years we’ve seen an increasing number of pro athletes taking an interest in muscle cars, resto mods, and pro touring builds. While many of them still have Euro-exotic cars in their collections as well, it’s a nice change to see some celebrities behind the wheel of a car with classic American lines. We look forward to learning more details of this car as it nears completion.
