Ray Bulach’s ’99 Camaro Sets Six-Speed LSX Record

Chasing records in drag racing has been a competition in and of itself since the very beginnings of the sport. With every new class or platform created, there’s a race to see who can be the quickest and fastest down the track. In the LSX powered world it seems like there are records falling each and every day, and another one was just recently reset by Ray Bulach and his nitrous-huffing 1999 Camaro. Bulach has had some ups and downs this season, and resetting the six-speed LSX record was the crown jewel of the year, as he clicked off a stout 8.80 at 150 MPH

rayThose that follow the LSX Challenge series certainly know Bulach and his Camaro.  Starting out in the LSX Rumble category, Bulach made a name for himself  banging gears in his black Camaro, and in 2012 he took the LSX Rumble title at the Holley LS Fest in Bowling Green, running in the 9.50 Index category. Yep, a stick shift car walked through the field of automatics to win. Did we also mention Ray has been known to abuse the back bumper of his F-body by doing show-stopping wheelstands, as well? Ray has now moved up into the shark tank that is Real Street in the LSX series and has the potential to do some real damage there, just as he’s done in index racing.

Motivating Ray’s Camaro into the eight-second zone is a 416 cubic inch LS3 built by All In Racing Engines. A set of Trick Flow heads, Super Victor Intake, Wilson throttle body and 80-pound injectors sit atop the engine to build the power. The nitrous system is a Nitrous Outlet spray bar set up with a .099-inch jet and dual 10-pound bottles feeding the giggle juice on the record pass. The faceplated T56 is provided by RPM Transmissions, and a Monster Twin Disc handles the clutch duties. The car has BMR suspension setup on all four corners, with Afco shocks taking care of keeping things planted.

Check out the video of Ray driving (and shifting) the wheels off his car and into the record books.
