It’s been almost three years since the C8 Corvettes rolled out into the streets, which by no means has been an easy task. A union strike, a pandemic, and numerous supplier delays have pushed the patience of many Corvette owners. During this time, the C8 has been slow to achieve the power upgrades many Corvette owners passionately enjoy about owning America’s iconic sports car. Although several tuner shops have grabbed some attention from pumped-up internet builds, South Florida’s Redline Motorsports seems to have a C8 program to change the game for the masses.
In early 2021 Lingenfelter Performance Engineering and MAGNUSON Superchargers partnered to develop a fully integrated TVS2650R Supercharger for the C8 Corvette coupe and hardtop convertible models (HTC). A system that is calibrated through the factory ECM and is CARB pending. It was realized early in development that, based on the sophisticated nature of the C8 platform, the installation of the complete program needed to be performed professionally. The concept of an Authorized Installer Program was born to meet the customer demands for the new system.
We are super excited, after over a year’s worth of comprehensive development and real-world testing, to finally be able to announce the program’s start-up. –Howard Tanner, owner of Redline Motorsports
The LPE/MAGNUSON team contacted Redline Motorsports to consult in the program’s development phase. “We are super excited after over a year’s worth of comprehensive development and real-world testing to finally be able to announce the program’s start-up,” Howard Tanner, owner of Redline Motorsports, told us. “We have always had a good relationship with LPE going back into the mid-80s, ” Tanner stated. “Mark Rapson, Lingenfelter’s COO/VP of Operations, was very welcoming of us being involved, and we appreciated the opportunity.”
Rapson explained some of the challenges with the system focused on the fitment into the HTC chassis. “The convertible is very limited in space, and the original design had us at the edge of those limits. The new billet lid design now fits both chassis and actually yielded an improvement from the original design,” Rapson stated.
The Lingenfelter MAGNUSON C8 package features a high-efficiency charge-air intercooler within the supercharger and a robust heat exchanger system. “Going with a positive displacement supercharger really gave the C8 some grunt. Especially coupled with the ultra-fast DCT transmission and yielding 700 horsepower.” Tanner stated, “The DCT is already very good at keeping a car in its power band, especially through the shifts, and with a flat torque curve from the minute your foot hits the floor, it is very rewarding after driving the car with the stock 495 horsepower.”
The Authorized Installer Program consists of select professional installers who LPE will approve to sell for installation. Implementing this program will maintain consistent quality, reliability, and consistency of the program. Although the development cars have seen numerous track events and over 12,000 miles of daily use, the program’s integrity relies on the installation, Rapson explained.
The premise of the program is to provide a super clean install, no check engine lights, and no hassles. This is not about setting records but more about disciplined power within the car’s boundaries, emissions compliance, and providing performance that exceeds the C8 Z06. –Howard Tanner, owner of Redline Motorsports”
“With the C8 Z06 really being over-exploited, many are just giving up on the car and falling back to a Z51-based C8 that they now can make 700 horsepower with this available option. A powertrain warranty will be offered at an additional cost at the time of installation, providing powertrain coverage for the engine and transmission if desired,” Tanner explained.
Redline will offer various other upgrades to the Phase 1 Supercharger install, such as improved axles, Borla cat-back exhaust, DCT clutch upgrades, and a few others. Talking with Tanner, it sounds like a Phase 2 Supercharger is already in development and testing and will be released sometime in 2023. However, as Tanner indicated, much like Phase 1’s development, “we aren’t going to release anything until it is perfect.”
Redline Motorsports is also tying this new powerplant into its HTR Performance packages, offering fully optioned-up builds with package-specific badging, interior trims, wheels, and some aero.
