Restomod Corvettes have been all the rage for quite some time, and every once in a while, one appears that stands out from the rest. This particular ’59 ‘Vette has many reasons why it shows head and shoulders above your typical LS-based powertrain swapped C1.
Looking at the car, you can see the level of craftsmanship that went into the build. With only 150 miles on the odometer since completion, the car is in as “new” condition as possible. Many of the components used in the build are not only new, but also very high-quality and designed for a car of this caliber.
While the “Franny Green” paint and “Linen” colored leather interior hearkens back to a vintage era, those EVOD, one-off wheels begin to show that there is much more under the surface than your typical solid-axle. At the car’s very foundation is a Cadillac Grey powdercoated Art Morrison chassis featuring a C7 Corvette front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, Strange Engineering coilovers, Wilwood brakes, custom independent rear suspension and a fully-adjustable ride-height.
Of course, the drivetrain has been upgraded as well. A direct-injected, 6.2-liter Corvette LT1 engine rated at 460hp and 465 ft/lbs of torque is paired with a 4L75e automatic transmission. Known as the “Supermatic” 4L75-E, the four-speed auto is offered by Chevrolet Performance as an alternative to the beefy 4L60e when space is limited. The 4L75e is based on the 4L65e but has a 650 lb.-ft torque capacity rating.
Other features that helped boost this car’s bid price at Barrett-Jackson’s recent Scottsdale auction are the Rick’s Stainless gas tank, Fragola Performance Systems, Teflon fuel lines and fittings, GM wiring harness and factory-programmed computer, electrically activated three-position automatic hood, Dakota Digital gauges and LED lighting throughout. The car’s radio was made to look like the original 1959 Wonder Bar model but comes with Bluetooth, JL amplifier, subwoofer and focal speakers.
All of the best components don’t mean a thing if the fit and finish aren’t up to par. Looking at these photos, you can see this car has it in spades. Although the car’s builder isn’t mentioned, whoever it deserves congratulations on building such an eye-grabber. That said, the car reportedly caught the eye of funnyman Kevin Hart, who obviously felt the car was well worth the $825,000 bid.
We’re not sure how many miles will wind up on the odometer of this fabulous ride, but we know how many WE’D put on it! We hope Kevin enjoys his new ride and it’s good to know that the Corvette restomod movement is going strong after all these years!
