Sometimes it can be easy for us to forget that muscle cars weren’t just built in the ‘60s and ‘70s. The ‘80s also had their fair share of rear-wheel-drive coupes and sedans powered by big V8s, and they responded to the hot-rod treatment just as well as those original muscle cars we all know and love. Best of all, the ’80s muscle cars seem to still be relatively easy to find and are for the most part reasonably priced. It’s no wonder that the popularity of cars like the GM G-Bodies have absolutely sky-rocketed in the last few years.
The aftermarket seems to have taken notice too, and more and more companies are starting to make speed parts for these cars. In fact, we recently spotted this primo Monte Carlo SS on Ridetech’s Facebook page, and we discovered that it’s actually one of their new test cars.
The Monte is done up Pro-Touring style with big rollers, Baer brakes, a fully adjustable Level III suspension kit, a their bump steer reducing Tru-Turn Set up. Of course there’s also LS power under the hood and an overdirve transmission for highway cruising.
The Ridetech Monte Carlo is a prime example of what an 80s muscle car can become in the right hands. We know we’re not the only ones out here who are crazy for these cars – so tell us – What’s your favorite 80’s GM muscle car, and how would you build one up if you were given the chance?
