If you’ve been following the latest build of Lingenfelter’s second drag racing Camaro, the Real Street car, you aren’t the only one. The raw power that the new Lingenfelter Camaro boasts is enough to make any car enthusiasts’ eyes roll to the back of their head and jaw drop open. Last weekend, Lingenfelter took their new Camaro out to the Holley LS Fest and ran it for the first time down the drag strip. And let me tell you, it was a site to see.
If you missed the famed Camaro’s run, or just want to be immersed in its undeniable power once again, you’re in luck. Thanks to YouTube, you can watch the impressive race over and over to your heart’s content.
Back in July, we took a first look at Lingenfelter’s second drag Camaro and were in love with it immediately. With big shoes to fill after Lingenfelter’s first drag Camaro made it into the 8-second club, the new Camaro was built to dominate in the Real Street drag racing class.
With no runs under its belt, the new Lingenfelter Camaro took to the track at the LS Fest, against an unsuspecting fourth-generation Trans Am. With the flash of the lights, the Camaro was off, and off fast. As the saying goes, “faster than a speeding bullet” the Camaro crossed the speed traps, illuminating a 9.137 second time for the quarter mile at 150.28 mph. No doubt there were cheers from the crowd and the Lingenfelter team at the end of the video.
But that’s not the only impressive run we’ll see from the new Camaro. As seen in two recent YouTube videos, the Lingenfelter crew has been building a 358 LSX engine for the car, and it looks and sounds as powerful as the name suggests. Unlike the engine installed for LS Fest, this mill has an experimental flat-plane crankshaft that gives it a unique sound.
While the first start-up of the engine is impressive, you can get a true feel from the dyno-pull video where the engine makes 621 hp at 9,000rpm, and that’s without the 76mm Garrett turbocharger planned for the car. If the numbers aren’t telling enough, the glow from the exhaust header primaries after the pull should tell you plenty.
We look forward to seeing more of the impressive new Lingenfelter Camaro. Even though it’s got the first Camaro’s numbers to live up to, we have no doubt that it will be a fierce competitor.
