The new Camaro ZL1 represents the fastest, most powerful Camaro GM has ever built. It is a dream machine, a high-performance monster tested and tuned by one of the largest companies that has ever existed, in wind tunnels and road courses privileged few ever see. The simple fact that it costs $65,000 is reason enough to leave it alone and let it collect dust (and value) in a climate controlled garage. But for some people, awesome just isn’t awesome enough.

The Stingray Garage is prepping their SEMA 2012 project car, and boy is it going to be a doozy. They’re cutting into a brand new ZL1 and adding a whole host of upgrades, including a widebody kit, Pedders coilovers and plenty more.

Called Project FREEDOM FIGHTER and owned by veteran Kelly Fromm, this Camaro ZL1 is sure to raise some eyebrows and arguments. If you ask us, there is no such thing as the perfect car, and even the Camaro ZL1 could stand to see some improvements (though its engineers might disagree). And considering the list of sponsors and parts makers on this project, the projected horsepower output of 750 ponies might be a bit…conservative.

We already mentioned Pedders, but also joining the party is Magnuson superchargers, Alea leather, Magnaflow exhaust, American Racing Headers, and many more. FREEDOM FIGHTER is also getting a full-on exterior makeover that includes a Cylon-like front fascia and plenty of cutting into that $65,000 sheet metal. Hey, we’re not saying they shouldn’t do it – but we might cringe just a little as we cut. …Just sayin’.
