With the release of the fifth-generation Camaro in the Pacific rim, GM created an eye-catching commercial complete with street racing, tire smoke and a few donuts to entice buyers. Starting off with rock music, this commercial seems like it could appear on the television in United States. The usual specifications are shown, but they are subtitled in the native language. All of the electronic features of interior are demonstrated, but the measurement system is of course a little different. Thanks to hefty price tag attached to the RS model released in the Asian market, Chevrolet needed to give the commercial a little edge and perhaps borrow a few plot elements from the Fast and the Furious franchise.
Once the yellow RS is fired up and the cellphone is synced to the in-car Bluetooth, the driver (who serves as the drummer in the rock band featured in the commercial) pulls out the garage and hits the road. Seeking to display the power created by the 3.6 V6 engine, the driver wrings out the engine while on the freeway. After exiting the freeway, a silver Camaro pulls up next the Yellow car at a red light; at this point both drivers a take cue from the Fast and Furious gang by starting a tire smoking session that leads to a street-race and or chase sequence once the light turns green.
It’s a curious mix of features-and-benefits cuts mixed with action footage you’d never see in commercials intended for lawsuit-happy North America – enjoy the culture shock!
