GM did a good thing by sticking as close to the Camaro concept as possible. It made a big splash when it debuted on the car show circuit, and when it finally hit the market last year fans snatched them up as quickly as they arrived at dealerships. It’s hard to think that the Camaro has only been on the market for a year, and yet GM is still sitting on other variants like the Convertible and Z/28. It looks like even the regular Camaro might get a few upgrades soon.
There’s been a tidal wave of “spy” photos of Camaros testing in Germany over the past week (though it’s hard to really call them that, since GM seems to be actively encouraging the sightings, and why not? Free publicity is free publicity…) and Camaro5 came across these pictures of what appears to be the 2012 Camaro on the road. It has a number of minor modifications, some of which could be intended for export-only.
The Camaro is a popular car world-wide, and every country has different standards that automakers must adhere to. The “updates” to the Camaro include LED taillights with a a united-sunglasses shape, rather than the individual lamps of the current Camaro. The side mirrors as bigger now and feature an integrated turn signal, and the rear reflectors have been moved down to just above the rear diffuser.
We like these minor changes, especially that taillights. However, these pictures were taken in Germany, one of many countries GM plans to export the Camaro. These changes might have to do with European automotive laws, although a similar taillight design was seen on a Camaro outside of the production plant in Oshawa, Canada. So maybe it really is an update. We’ll have to wait until the “official” release to see for sure.
