It’s no secret that we’re in love with Australian car builds over here at LSXMag – they’re some of the cleanest, and by far some of the craziest.
You may remember the Holden VK Commodore with a Magnuson-supercharged LS3 we wrote about a while back. This 1985 VK Commodore is a little different. Instead of an LS3 under the hood, it employs GM’s powerful, factory-supercharged LSA engine. Equipped with a mild cam, valve springs, and a pulley upgrade that allows the blower to spin to 12 PSI, the LSA is making a healthy 556 horsepower at the wheels. For an extra oomph, the owner also runs it on E85 fuel.
The transmission mated to the LSA is a 2-speed powerglide with a TCE 3,500 RPM stall converter, and, as you can see, this VK launches pretty nicely. We couldn’t help but notice how clean the interior was when the camera angle switched to an in-car shot. Everything about this car is beautifully executed. Did you notice how the ashtray slid open when the car launched off the line? We thought that was pretty funny.
So far, the owner’s best quarter-mile time in his LSA-powered VK is a 10.12 on street radials, but we definitely think there’s more in it. While it isn’t the fastest car in Australia, we can definitely appreciate all of the time, money, and hard work put into the vehicle and we give the owner props. The VK Commodore still looks like a four-door Fox-body Mustang every time we lay eyes on one, but, hey, that’s not all bad.
