Enthusiasts have longed for another full-sized, high-performance rear wheel drive sedan from Chevrolet since the Impala SS went out of production in 1996. They’ve given us half-hearted attempts with their later, FWD versions of the Impala SS, but they haven’t been able to recapture the appeal of that rear wheel drive, V8 powered ’90s B-body.
With rumors running amuck about the long-awaited replacement, many of us have already begun to lose interest in the new Chevy. That was until today, when we first laid eyes on it.
As we just recently reported, we’ve already caught a glimpse at the “look-alike” NASCAR version, and now thanks to our Australian friends, Motoring, we get a good look at what the Holden production version of the Chevy SS will probably be like; the 2013 Commodore VF.
The images that you’re looking at on this page are renderings put together by the guys at Motoring based on the recently revealed NASCAR Chevy SS. We image that Chevrolet will tweak the production Holden slightly, though not much, to have it fit in with the rest of the Chevy range. Particularly the front grille, wheels, and rear fascia.
Motoring’s renderings correctly incorporate much of the new Chevrolet styling, including the tail lamps, that closely resemble that of the 2013 Malibu’s (which are themselves a spin on the current Camaro’s).
As you know, the Chevy SS will be completely based on the VF Commodore, and although we don’t have the actual engine or performance specs as of this writing, it’s already been determined that this RWD sedan will only be powered by a V8 engine.
Which engine that will be, the current LS3 or LT1 (more than likely the latter), is still up for debate. When we get some more definite details we’ll bring them to you.
