Twin-Turbo C8 Corvette Pumps Record-Breaking 1,000 Horsepower

Everyone has been looking at the C8 Corvette and pondering how much power this still-new, mid-engine platform can produce. Thanks to YouTuber Emelia Hartford, we now know that quadruple-digit power numbers are possible.

Of course, it took more than simply a plug-and-play upgrade. LSXmag.com readers may remember following this C8 on its high-powered journey and ultimately, in the S.O.I (Significant Opportunity for Improvement) that occurred shortly after the twin-turbos were installed and the car hit the streets. That improvement came with a LOT of new components!

A pair of turbos-still resides under the rear fascia of Emelia’s C8, but now, there are other goodies allowing full use of the turbos.

Since the factory clutches are rated for “only” around 650 hp, the car was treated to a new set of Dodson Motorsport clutches to help hold the additional power and torque planned for the car. The engine was also refreshed, and in a “while you’re in there” moment, the team added several other components designed to take the car further than GM had ever envisioned.

Everyone knows that the factory ECU has been the limiting factor in going much beyond low-boost applications and hinders much of the power-adder techniques that have been honed over the years. To counter this shortcoming, the team contacted Holley Performance for one of its Holley Dominator EFI unit that will act as an auxiliary, and stand-alone fueling system. A Crawford Racing harness that was originally designed for the C7 Corvette connects all the necessary sensors and actuators and a set of 200-lb Holley injectors will supply the additional fuel via the Holley intake’s ports. There will also be a complete methanol injection system to allow additional cooling to the intake charge, as well as intercoolers.

The first runs were made on 91 octane, but when the wick was turned up, VP Racing's C16 was added to the tank and M1 methanol went into the custom-fabbed meth repository.

There is also a custom Peitz Performance controller to manipulate boost, while the Holley system trims the fuel, timing, and methanol injection while under boost. As you can imagine, the additional piggy-back systems add another level of complexity, but also helps carry the car’s fueling requirements well into the safe zone for their intended goal.

The Holley Dominator EFI feeds the additional fuel when the car goes into boost. The ECU and wiring was stuffed behind the seat.

That goal was to have the most powerful C8 on the planet, and the team headed off to the dyno to prove it. The first runs were very sedated, making sure that everything was correct, and like any build, there was some tweaking to be done before the dials were all set to eleven. At ten pounds of boost and on 91 octane fuel, the car churned out 700 horsepower! From there, the numbers continued to climb.

Topside, a Holley intake now houses those 200lb port injectors, as well as the meth injection system to help the engine keep its cool.

Over 800 horsepower soon showed on the screen as the rollers’ whine decreased and with the addition of VP Racing’s C16 fuel into the C8’s factory fueling system, 900 horsepower and 830 lb-ft of torque was readily on-hand. A dose of meth and the numbers continued to climb. Ultimately, when everything was said and done, the little white C8 that could spin the rollers to an amazing 1,022 horsepower and 942 lb-ft of torque.

In the end, the team reached their goal of 1,000 horsepower, but there were a few casualties in the process.

As you can imagine, the team was elated at breaking the century mark, but after a whole day of thrashing on the dyno, there was only one thing left to do- a celebratory pull out on the street! The car sounds amazing and with over 1,000 horsepower, the team has shown that the sun still continues to rise over the horsepower horizon. We’ll look forward to seeing what paths Emelia and team continue to forge and who accepts the challenge of following in their footsteps. Check out the video and listen to those sweet-sounding turbos doing what they do best. You’ll be glad you did!
