Former NMRA and NMCA racer and Holley Performance Products‘ National Sales Director, “Uncle” Robin Lawrence, has made the move to the big time — for five races, at least. Lawrence, who cut his teeth way back when racing a Mustang in the NMRA’s Factory Stock class, has a great education in what it takes to run quickly with minimal parts.
He’s set his sights on the NHRA’s B/Stock Automatic class record, currently locked in at a 10.35 at 128.6 MPH. Uncle Robin will be driving the 2014 COPO Camaro of Daren Poole-Adams in the class for five events this season, including Holley’s own LS Fest that’s scheduled to take place September 5-7, 2014 — just a few weeks away.
While there are no dyno numbers displayed during the course of the video, we know from past dealings with Robin that he won’t rest until every possible performance advantage is identified, quantified, and implemented using the tools at his disposal.
The guy was legendary for testing set after set after set of stock cylinder heads and stock camshaft after stock camshaft in his attempts to find an edge when he used to race in Factory Stock — and that edge may have only been one or two horsepower — but that’s the level he’s willing to go to in order to be the very best.
The engine in this beast is a 350 cubic inch naturally-aspirated LSX piece that’s newly factored for the 2014 season of Stock, and Lawrence has been burning up the hides looking for that advantage over the competition.
Will he be able to run the number? We don’t know – but we do know he’ll leave no stone, or valve cover, or intake manifold unturned in the process.
