Right now it’s a great time to be a modern muscle car junkie. The Big 3 continue to pump out a steady stream of rear wheel drive awesomeness from Detroit, and try to one-up each other along the way. Ford has the GT500, Dodge has their SRT8 line, and Chevy has the 5th generation Camaro and its variations. The current bad boy on the block is the ZL1 Camaro. This F-body mates brutal power with precise handling and produces a car that is an assault on the senses.
The ZL1 got its start back in the 1969 model year as a big block monster that hurt feelings on the track and street. Chevrolet brought the ZL1 back in 2013 and really did the name justice with this newest incarnation. You can pick the car up off the showroom floor making 580 horsepower and 560 foot-pounds of torque courtesy of the 6.2L supercharged all-aluminum motor under the hood. All that power pushes the ZL1 from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The car is also equipped with Magnetic Ride Control that helped the ZL1 navigate the Nurburgring race track in 7:14:27!
Car owner Stephen Vigoa and Redline Motorsports have taken the ZL1 to the next level, creating a formidable 10 second street car with just bolt-ons. To help the Camaro breathe better a Roto-Fab cold air intake, 102MM throttle body and ported intake snout were used. A set of 1 7/8-inch American Racing headers and X-pipe help to expel all the exhaust gas out of the engine. To help build more boost, a 2.55-inch diameter upper supercharger pulley has been put into play. With these and a few other upgrades the Camaro was able to cover the quarter mile in a blistering 10.95 seconds at 124 MPH and a 1.62 sixty foot!
